Kenya’s rugby calendar is poised for an exciting campaign after SportPesa announced a record Ksh 34.14 million sponsorship for the 2026 National Sevens Circuit, more than doubling last season’s support.
The six-event series begins in Nakuru on July 25 with the Prinsloo 7s, where defending champions KCB Rugby will start their campaign for a sixth title.
SportPesa Public Relations and Advertising Manager Willis Ojwang described the circuit as central to Kenyan rugby, saying it forms the foundation for developing future national players.
He noted that the competition has helped produce athletes who went on to win Africa 7s honors, represent Kenya at the Olympic Games, and raise the country’s profile internationally.
The sponsorship will direct Ksh 16.14 million toward competitive infrastructure, including support for host clubs, Kenya Rugby Union operations, and prize money.
A further Ksh 9 million will improve broadcast production and livestreaming, while another KES 9 million will fund fan engagement activities.
Kenya Rugby Union Chairperson Harriet Okatch welcomed the partnership, saying SportPesa’s support has consistently helped clubs stage the circuit, given players a platform to showcase their abilities, and provided national selectors with a deep talent pool.
She said the increased investment this season strengthens confidence as the union continues building sustainable pathways for both Shujaa and the Lionesses.
The circuit runs until September 13 and concludes with the Christie 7s. KCB, which collected a record 126 points last season, will face strong challenges from Strathmore Leos, Kabras Sugar, Menengai Oilers, and Kenya Harlequin.
