Kenyan sprint star Ferdinand Omanyala showcased another dominant performance on the international circuit, claiming the men’s 100m title at the 2026 Xiamen Diamond League in China with a season-best time of 9.94 seconds.
Following his runner-up finish at the previous weekend’s Shanghai/Keqiao competition, Omanyala mounted a strong final acceleration to narrowly defeat South Africa’s Gift Leotlela, who took second place in 10.00 seconds.
Leotlela had claimed victory in the prior event with a 9.97-second performance, establishing an intense yet brief rivalry between these two sprinters.
American Trayvon Bromell, a two-time world medalist, secured third place in 10.03 seconds, as the event assembled a formidable array of international sprinting talent.
Olympic 200m gold medalist Letsile Tebogo had a challenging competition, finishing eighth, while four-time global medalist Kenny Bednarek claimed fourth position following his second-place result in the previous Diamond League stage.
In response to Omanyala’s achievement, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi commended the sprinter for his continued excellence on the world stage.
“What an incredible sprint by Ferdinand Omanyala in China! A magnificent 9.94-second performance to capture the men’s 100m at the Xiamen Diamond League, once again proudly raising Kenya’s banner on the international platform. Congratulations, Omanyala!” stated Mudavadi.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also extended congratulations to the athlete, characterizing the victory as a source of national pride and motivation for young athletes.
“Congratulations Ferdinand Omanyala for securing the men’s 100m title with a Season’s Best (SB) of 9.94s at the Xiamen Diamond League! Excellent victory in China! You keep elevating Kenya’s profile worldwide while inspiring our emerging generation of athletes! We take pride in your achievements!” remarked Gachagua.
Omanyala’s latest triumph strengthens his growing status as one of Africa’s premier sprinters and a reliable medal contender on the Diamond League circuit.
This performance also serves as a powerful early-season declaration as he maintains his momentum toward the upcoming global championships, where he is anticipated to once again compete against the world’s top sprinters.
