The legendary footballer and iconic former Gor Mahia midfielder Allan Thigo has been cremated at the Hindu crematorium in Kisumu.
Thigo was widely considered one of the greatest players to ever feature in Kenyan football.
Thigo, who passed away on Saturday, was cremated around noon, with family members and several Gor Mahia fans in attendance.
Prior to the cremation, supporters were given a final opportunity to pay their last respects to the celebrated footballer. As they sang and danced to various Gor Mahia songs.
Known as the “90-minute man,” “the midfield general,” “Ogango Wuon Pap,” and “owner of the field,” Thigo was celebrated for his creativity, vision, and commanding midfield presence.
He represented Gor Mahia for 13 years from 1970 to 1982, becoming a pivotal figure in the club’s dominance during one of its most successful periods.
Thigo also acted as player-coach, guiding Gor Mahia to an unbeaten league championship in 1976, before steering the club to the final of the 1979 African Cup Winners’ Cup.
