County Partners With International Experts to Train Entrepreneurs

by KenyaPolls

Nairobi City County announced the launch of a new training programme for entrepreneurs, collaborating with international institutions to build capacity in its business community. The initiative includes a Training of Trainers (TOT) programme aimed at equipping vocational training instructors with advanced digital and entrepreneurship skills. The task‑training is delivered in part through global partners such as the ICDL Foundation.
As part of the county’s innovation push, the Jericho Incubation Hub was opened in October 2025 to serve as a digital-one‑stop centre for mentorship, incubation, and tech training. The hub’s establishment is backed by partnerships with Computer Aid Kenya, ICDL Africa, and Amazon Web Services (AWS), bringing international technical expertise directly to local entrepreneurs. Additionally, Nairobi’s InnovateNBO Tech Week, held in August 2024, has been a platform for cross-border collaboration, showcasing county‑led engagement with both local and global innovation stakeholders.
The business community has welcomed the initiative, citing it as a critical step toward closing the skills gap among early‑stage entrepreneurs. According to the county, these training programmes will provide practical support in technology, business planning, and market access. However, some observers note that sustained impact will depend on regular follow‑ups, mentorship beyond the training, and integration of these newly skilled entrepreneurs into regional and global value chains.
Looking ahead, Nairobi City County plans to expand its skill‑training partnerships with more international development organizations and private sector players. With the foundation laid by the current training programmes, the county hopes to nurture a generation of globally competitive small business owners — fuelling economic growth, innovation, and job creation across Nairobi’s wards.
