TSC sets aside Sh1b to train 70,000 teachers for Grade 9 CBC roll-out

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has set aside Sh1 billion to train 70,000 teachers in preparation for the 2026 rollout of Grade 9 under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Purpose: The training aims to equip teachers with the skills needed to effectively deliver the new senior school curriculum.

Scope: All teachers handling Grade 9 students will receive guidance on the three senior school pathways—STEM, Social Science, and Arts & Sports.

Timeline: Training is planned ahead of the January 2026 transition to ensure teachers are ready for the first cohort moving into senior school.

This initiative underscores Kenya’s commitment to smooth implementation of CBC and quality education for over one million learners advancing to senior school.
