Nairobi County launched the Digital Training Programs to equip SMEs, startups, and young professionals with the skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven economy. The initiative was introduced under the county’s Business Digital Transformation Agenda, which emphasizes digital literacy, innovation, and entrepreneurship as key drivers of inclusive growth.
The programs focus on cloud computing, e-commerce integration, cybersecurity awareness, digital payments, and AI-driven business tools. Nairobi County partnered with universities, tech hubs, and private sector players to deliver training through workshops, online platforms, and incubation centers. By embedding digital skills into everyday business operations, the county aims to reduce barriers for SMEs and strengthen Nairobi’s role as East Africa’s innovation hub.
Entrepreneurs and youth have welcomed the initiative, noting that digital training helps bridge critical gaps in knowledge and access to global markets. Analysts argue that the program is particularly transformative for Nairobi’s SMEs, as it enables them to scale operations, reduce costs, and compete internationally. The training also complements earlier initiatives such as the Nairobi Innovation Fund (March 2025) and the Green Business Initiative (October 2025), creating a comprehensive ecosystem for growth.
Looking ahead, Nairobi County plans to expand the Digital Training Programs by integrating AI-powered learning platforms, blockchain-based certification systems, and partnerships with global tech firms. Officials believe that by embedding digital literacy into business development, Nairobi can accelerate job creation, attract investment, and reinforce its position as East Africa’s digital capital.
