Overview
Program: Government Elimu Scholarship for secondary school students.
Location: Kajiado County.
Beneficiaries: 177 students (80 boys, 97 girls).
Objective: Support needy and vulnerable learners, promote 100% transition from primary to secondary school, and provide holistic development including academic, spiritual, and mental support.
Selection Process
Criteria:
Minimum KCPE score: 280 marks.
Consideration of poverty parameters, such as orphaned or incapacitated parents.
Inclusion of candidates with disabilities and special needs even if below 280 marks.
Methodology:
Competitive selection through personal interviews and home visits.
Community Selection Advisory Committee oversees fairness; includes government technocrats, religious and political leaders, CBOs, NGOs, and special interest groups.
Scholarship Benefits
Payment of school fees.
Provision of basic personal effects/necessities.
Mentorship program for academic, spiritual, and mental growth.
Assigned champion teacher in schools to monitor welfare and performance.
